Welcome to the first post for 2018.
New Years Eve went ok and I had a lot of messages about the lively 50s/60s/70/s music - all favourable.
Here's the programme until early June.
Going through most of the year at 5.30 is a serial in 37 parts -The Air Adventures of Biggles. This is the 3rd and last of these Biggles stories I have. I hope you enjoy it.
There is no problem finding material for the 6.30 slot from the archives of wireless, nor the programmes from the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club at around 8pm or so. I recently had an email from one of the past members of the Club who thought it was a good idea to play these quirky items.
After the book "The Harp in The South" has been read, the next book "The Promise Of The Wolves" will be read. It's in 16 parts.

Greetings -Kia ora,
My tenure at the Radio Station is still uncertain. I am in the throes of sellng my property and moving to a smaller place somewhere, but one can't sell a property until one has a buyer (or 2 or more).
So I've worked out the schedule for the next 13 weeks anyway, and I hope that regardless of property sales, I'll be able to keep to the schedule.
New Year's Eve: Over the past 5 or so years I have done a dance and merry-making session on New Year's Eve, We have a staff meeting next Tuesday, and I'll try to encourage one of the other presenters to take on this job. I like doing it, but I don't want to give the appearance of comandeering that slot.
More book readings are coming up, I now have heaps of audio books to read out chapter by chapter. When I first started a book reading at 9 pm, I didn't thing I could keep going for a year, let alone 10 years.

This is not a scheduled posting, it is to put right a major mistake by me in counting up the number of episodes of "The Thief Lord", out Tuesday 5.30pm presentation.
I calculated there would be 12 episodes of about 20 minutes duration.
It is on 6 cassette tapes. Each tape has a Side A and Side B. Each side runs for just uder 45 minutes. So the planned 12 weeks to hear it through, should correctly be 24 weeks. Therefore playing about 22 minutes per night once a week means it will take 6 months to play right through.
AND (here's advance notice) my tenure at the Radio Station will probably finish before the end of the year.
Therefore: to solve the problem, I propose to play each side in full.
If we stick with a 5.30 start, this means overrunning into the 6pm and then the 6.30 programmes.
So I will start each episode of The Thief Lord at 5.15pm and run through the full 45 minutes of the cassette.
To summarise:-
The segment on my programme "For Younger Ears" will henceforth commence at 5.15pm each Tuesday.

Greetings Listeners,
Here is the spring update of what's going to be heard on Trevor's Tuesday Variety Time. (That title actually, comes from the past days of radio. The father of a mate of mine, Stephen Chadwick, did I think it was a twice weekly 15 minute radio programme reviewing the latest records available at Columbus Radio Centres. These shops had the sole rights to sell Capitol, Tanza and RCA records. His show was called 'Chad's Variety Time' and he was 'Chad, your Variety Time compere'.)
Two new books are started, The Thief Lord is a story in 12 parts for younger ears, and after We of The Never Never finishes the 9 pm book readings will be from Wake the Dead, by Dorothy Simpson.
I have had some quite positive feedback about the archives of the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club. These tapes are, in the main, varied and interesting. There are many tapes in the archives of music, much of this music is similar to my normal programme material. But an hour long tape of nothing but theatre organ music - no, I don't think I'll be playing too much of these sorts of programmes. Maybe in short bursts.
So as you read the details below, bear in mind that each Tuesday at 6.30 is a programme from the archives of radio; and between 8 and 9 is an item from the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club archives. These Club tapes are made by members, for members, and the quality is not always the best.

Here is the spring update of what's going to be heard on Trevor's Tuesday Variety Time. (That title actually, comes from the past days of radio. The father of a mate of mine, Stephen Chadwick, did I think it was a twice weekly 15 minute radio programme reviewing the latest records available at Columbus Radio Centres. These shops had the sole rights to sell Capitol, Tanza and RCA records. His show was called 'Chad's Variety Time' and he was 'Chad, your Variety Time compere'.)
Two new books are started, The Thief Lord is a story in 12 parts for younger ears, and after We of The Never Never finishes the 9 pm book readings will be from Wake the Dead, by Dorothy Simpson.
I have had some quite positive feedback about the archives of the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club. These tapes are, in the main, varied and interesting. There are many tapes in the archives of music, much of this music is similar to my normal programme material. But an hour long tape of nothing but theatre organ music - no, I don't think I'll be playing too much of these sorts of programmes. Maybe in short bursts.
So as you read the details below, bear in mind that each Tuesday at 6.30 is a programme from the archives of radio; and between 8 and 9 is an item from the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club archives. These Club tapes are made by members, for members, and the quality is not always the best.

The blending of articles of historic and heritage interest in with music over the 6 hours of the weekly Tuesday Variety Time means that there is less music now than previously. However, other presenters at the radio station continue to play music with 'heritage' values. I too will endevour to keep good music as a major part of the programme, even if it is now just filling in between the other items.
I have recently acquired a 100 disc library of music that made it to the Jazz Music Charts from about 1935 to about 1955, and I hope to be able to include plenty of this on Tuesdays.
Through this time, A Newsletter from the Hampden School will be read just before the 5.30 item, ISIRTA means 'I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again", a BBC comedy show of the 70s, an item from Radio's archives will be at 6.30, and after the Concert Piece will be an item from the archives of the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club.

Welcome to the first posting of 2017.
Two events have occurred that will impact on my Tuesday variety time show.
One is that I have recently acquired the library of the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club.
This Club was run single-handedly for 28 years by Mrs Phyllis Moore of Rotorua (now of Tokoroa).
The members would submit to Phyll items of interest, and she would put the shorter items together in a 'magazine' format and circulate about 8 copies around the 100 or so members world-wide. The longer items were despatched on cassettes (again about 8 copies) of their own. Members would use the reverse side of the cassette to enter comments about what they'd heard. When these tapes got back to Phyll after about 6 months, she would dub the comments on to another cassette, and send this to the member who had compiled the tape.
I now have in my possession about 400 reel to reel tapes (the forerunner of the cassette), and about 900 cassette tapes. There's quite a bit of interesting stuff there. I hope to be introducing at least one item each night.
The second event to happen is that picking up Oamaru Heritage Radio on the internet has been greatly simplified. Just type in the simple address and hear us from there. It is www.ohr.nz
Here's the line-up for the next 13 weeks. Note that on June 6th, I think every other radio station similar to ours will be remembering the Normandy "D Day" landings. I've chosen to remember The Battle Of The Midway" that day instead. The date is the same -just 3 years earlier. An hour-long dramatisation of the Battle will be at 6.30pm.

Two events have occurred that will impact on my Tuesday variety time show.
One is that I have recently acquired the library of the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club.
This Club was run single-handedly for 28 years by Mrs Phyllis Moore of Rotorua (now of Tokoroa).
The members would submit to Phyll items of interest, and she would put the shorter items together in a 'magazine' format and circulate about 8 copies around the 100 or so members world-wide. The longer items were despatched on cassettes (again about 8 copies) of their own. Members would use the reverse side of the cassette to enter comments about what they'd heard. When these tapes got back to Phyll after about 6 months, she would dub the comments on to another cassette, and send this to the member who had compiled the tape.
I now have in my possession about 400 reel to reel tapes (the forerunner of the cassette), and about 900 cassette tapes. There's quite a bit of interesting stuff there. I hope to be introducing at least one item each night.
The second event to happen is that picking up Oamaru Heritage Radio on the internet has been greatly simplified. Just type in the simple address and hear us from there. It is www.ohr.nz
Here's the line-up for the next 13 weeks. Note that on June 6th, I think every other radio station similar to ours will be remembering the Normandy "D Day" landings. I've chosen to remember The Battle Of The Midway" that day instead. The date is the same -just 3 years earlier. An hour-long dramatisation of the Battle will be at 6.30pm.

Greetings all,
Greetings all, a Happy New Year to you, and, if it's relevant, a Merry Xmas.
Looks like the forecasters at the Met Office may have an idea of what's in store for the summer when we are told it's going to be hot. We are still a month from the end of the year and day time temperatures are spending alot of time in the upper 20s. I give out a forecast from Met Service at 5 pm and 9 pm, but you should be aware that this is given to you for its entertainment value only. It rarely bears any relation to the weather we get in Hampden. C'est la vie.
Here's a look at what I intend to broadcast over our summer. There's a varied diet here from Joanna Trollope to the Lusitania to Westminster Abbey, and as usual, Tony Hancock. After this 13 week period there's only a dozen or so Hancock's Half Hour episodes left. Then I think we'll listen to some episodes of "I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again".
There may be occasions when I am unable to make it to the Studio. **Fortunately this has occurred so far only a couple of times. When (if) this happens, some other staff from the station may fill in the gap and keep playing a similar programme to mine. Any serials that were due to be played will have the relevant episodes played ASAP when I am able. I do not wish to get behind with the serials, so I'll be playing double episodes to catch up.
** This happened at the end of October when I found myself incapacitated and hospitalised. It may occur again soon as I intend to take a rush trip to the North Island, but as you all know, recent earthquake activity has meant rushed trips may be much longer than expected.
